Common reasons to see a counsellor

Picture
A common myth is that you only need to see a counsellor when a major issue occurs in your life, and that in general, you should be able to cope on your own. While counselling is extremely effective in assisting a person through a crisis, it is also a valuable tool to enable you to move beyond your current way of being. The insights and tools you will develop will stay with you long after your last session.

Some common reasons include:
  • Being unable to feel content and happy.
  • Regular anxious feelings
  • Difficulty forming or maintaining relationships
  • Assistance with major life decisions
  • Feeling that you are not understood
  • Lingering doubt about yourself and your abilities
  • Stress at home or at work
  • Feeling that you "should" be able to cope, but you are struggling.
  • Difficulty making certain decisions
  • Managing anger
  • Addictive behaviour
  • Abuse and bullying
  • Questioning sexuality
  • Past or current trauma
